Rising Stars Collegiate Mentoring ® Program
Profile The Rising Stars Collegiate Mentoring Program is a pilot program launched on Oct.13, 2009 in partnership with Huston-Tillotson University. Local business professionals serve as volunteer mentors, and each mentor is assigned one student. On average, Mentors and Students meet as a group once per month for sponsored face-to-face meetings and activities.
The Rising Stars Collegiate Mentoring Program supports the goals of the Austin Chapter of the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) regarding high student acheivement by focusing on professional development while providing guidance and support for college students in a safe and nurturing environment.
We truly believe the gifts, skills, and talents, along with the business and life experiences of our Mentors, are an invaluable asset and of great benefit to the current generation of college students. Their lives and future careers can only be enhanced by the knowledge and insight our Mentors bring to them. Young people today face far more personal and social pressures than any previous generation. Research indicates that intervention through structured mentor relationships may help give young people the tools needed to deal effectively with these pressures.
Mission
The goal of the Rising Stars Collegiate Mentoring Program is to facilitate the development and enhancement of mentor relationships at the college level. The purpose of the program is to bring college students and professional from the community to help them navigate their professional development while still in college.
